How to check pH and Alkalinity of the body?

Dean Kesarlal, the founder of Safe Soda and an iconic Australian healthy lifestyle educator, explains an effective way to test body pH and alkalinity using saliva.

The best time to test pH and alkalinity of the body is in the morning. You'll need a pH strip to test the acidity of your saliva. To do so, avoid eating or drinking for at least two hours before the test.

Simply place the Safe Soda Alkalinity Strip on your tongue. This will help confirm the body's pH and alkalinity levels. Make sure the test strips are sufficiently covered in saliva to remove and wait for 15 seconds. The pH strip will change colours based on your saliva's acidity and alkalinity.

The acidity or alkalinity of the body is measured by the concentration of hydrogen. This indicator shows the concentration of hydrogen in the body's fluids.

An over-reliance on the acidity of the body can lead to systemic damage and even disease. "A balanced pH can help prevent this from happening," says Dean.

"The acidity or alkalinity of the body is measured by the concentration of hydrogen in the body's fluids and tissues," says Dean. It is considered the healthiest for the human body. "A balanced pH level of about 7 is ideal for most people," Dean adds.

The human body is naturally designed to keep the pH balanced. The body filter and purify the blood and bones. When the body is too acidic, it can cause problems such as depletion of calcium and kidney stones.

The normal pH level for saliva is about 7.6. "Food and drink can change the pH level of saliva, and cause the body to become more acidic," says Dean. Too much acid in the blood can cause metabolic acidosis. This condition is linked to high blood pressure, diabetes, and other conditions.

Acidity prevents the body from storing fat cells in its internal acid environment. It also affects the flow of blood cells and helps keep the cells separate.

After 2 hours, try swallowing a bit of saliva. This will help remove any acidic bacteria from your mouth.

It is important to pay attention to the pH in the saliva. Your mouth needs a balanced pH to maintain proper function. When you drink acidic beverages, your saliva's pH can drop below 5.5. "This can cause demineralization of your tooth enamel," says Dean.

The thin layer of enamel that's left over after consuming acidic food and drink can expose the dentin, which is the part of the tooth that's responsible for holding the tooth in place.

If your saliva pH is out of balance, there are some signs that indicate that it is, such as bad breath, sensitivity to cold and hot beverages and tooth cavities. Ideally, saliva should be pH balanced between 6.2 and 7.6. It can maintain a healthy mouth and prevent tooth decay.
